On Thursday, 22nd May 2025, the Friends of Ronzls Foundation held Day 5 of its Annual Quiz and Spelling Bee Competition 5.0 (2025 Preliminaries), themed “Remo Ultimate Intellectual Showdown.” The competition took place at Wesley Primary School, Gbara, and featured selected primary schools from the Simawa/Sotunbo zone. It was a vibrant day of academic challenge, camaraderie, and exceptional performances from the participating pupils.
The competition was divided into two key sections. The first section was the quiz—a written, paper-and-pencil test designed to assess the pupils’ knowledge across core academic subjects. These included Mathematics, English Language, Science, General Knowledge, and ICT. Each contestant tackled a range of questions, demonstrating their reasoning skills, subject understanding, and critical thinking abilities.
The second section was the Spelling Bee, a live segment where contestants were tested on their vocabulary and spelling accuracy. Participants were called up one after the other to spell selected words, showcasing their confidence, composure, and command of the English language.
Schools that participated in the Simawa/Sotunbo zone included: African Church Primary School, Ewu-Oloja; Local Government Primary School, Ita Merin; Local Government School, Kanuyi; St. John’s Anglican Church School, Mosimi; St. Mark’s Anglican School, Iwelepe; St. Paul’s Anglican Primary School, Simawa; United African Methodist Church (UAMC) School, Iraye, Eleja; Wesley Primary School, Gbara; and Wesley Primary School, Sotubo. These schools came prepared, and their pupils showed commendable enthusiasm and talent throughout the day.
After the intense rounds of competition, two contestants stood out for their exceptional performance and earned their spots in the grand finale of the competition. They are Daud Jamaldeen Kehinde from St. Paul’s Anglican Primary School, Simawa, and Matthew Veronica from African Church Primary School, Ewu-Oloja. Both students displayed remarkable intelligence and determination, and we congratulate them on their well-deserved success.
